At least I grabbed my belongings

Mariah Christopher, ‘27

At least I grabbed my belongings

You sucked me dry till there was nothing left

A lifeless husk

Your barrette

You drained my soul in such a subtle way

You cornered me

I was your prey

A charming man with puppy dog eyes

Who would of known

I'd be your victim tonight

I tried to escape but you lured me back

Like a dumb animal

Being baited by their favorite snack

Time after time, you played the same tricks

And thought to yourself

“How can a dumb bitch like this learn to defend”

I learned your mind games

A dumb woman like me

And soon my love for you disappeared slowly

A lion to their prey

I realized it that day, the claim you took over my body

A woman no more, maybe a whore

But atleast I grabbed my belongings
